Pamela Tessmann - Sound Birth Services, Comox Valley, Doula, Lactation Counselor, Prenatal Yoga Teacher, Childbirth Educator

I am the owner/operator of Sound Birth Services and have been providing support to families as an Early Childhood Educator and Birth Worker for nearly 20 years.

I have 2 boys of my own - one born in hospital, one born at home. When I'm not working, I am homeschooling my kids, cross country skiing, biking, hiking, boating or camping with my family.

In 2015 I was trained and quickly certified by DONA International as a Birth Doula CD(DONA). I have training and experience in the physiology of pregnancy, labour and birth; pain management techniques; supporting pregnant people and their partners in the emotional aspects of pregnancy and birth; meeting needs in the early postpartum weeks; and breast/chest feeding support.

I found breast/chest feeding support in the Comox Valley to be lacking, so in 2019 I set out to become a Certified Lactation Counselor LC(CBI) with the accredited training site, Childbirth International in order to meet the needs of more families. To further that reach, I am now on the path to becoming an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), which will allow me to work more collaboratively with care providers.

I have been a certified Early Childhood Educator (ECE) since 2003 with extensive experience supporting and guiding families of young children according to their needs. My knowledge in infant and child development allows me to provide information and guidance to families on their child's developmental stages and growth.

In 2019 I was certified as a Prenatal Yoga Teacher (PYT) and in 2021 as a Childbirth Educator. I teach classes here in the Comox Valley as safety allows.

I have experience with, and am comfortable supporting pregnant people and their partners in both home and hospital settings - including cesarean sections.  I welcome any and all expectant parents, including LGBTQ and teens.

Birth is a powerful, life-changing event. I am continually in awe of the strength and natural birthing instincts pregnant people have during their labour and birth. My goals as your birth and lactation support person are to help you achieve your most desired and positive experiences as possible by helping you and your partner tap into your strengths and natural abilities.  I nurture and encourage you, and help you become as informed as you feel necessary, leaving you feeling supported and listened to.

It is my personal and professional goal to maintain your well-being and privacy throughout our time together.  I conduct my professional birth services in the utmost confidential and ethical manner.  This continues even after you are no longer in need of my services.

Jody Richards - Birth & Postpartum Doula

Jody Richards

She/Her

Birth & Postpartum Doula, Infant Care Specialist

You may know me as the Office Manager at Cedar House Midwives. I have spent 20 years supporting families as a Birth & Postpartum Doula and Childbirth Educator. I provide Postpartum Doula Services and occasional Birth Doula Services, as well as offering Infant Care Education.

After two decades of supporting families in the transition of parenthood, I recognize that one of the most valuable pieces of a positive birth experience is support. I believe strongly in non- judgmental support, and that your birth and parenting choices should be honoured.

My life experience has given me the skill of being able to relate to people at their most vulnerable, while attuning to what you need, making you feel deeply nurtured and safe. My best tool I bring is a warm, gentle and calming presence.

When I am not working I am spending time being a mom to my daughter and I'm also a fiber artist at Penguin & Owl Acres.
