At Sound Birth Services we are committed to providing compassionate guidance and support during the profound transition to parenthood. Owner Pamela Tessmann is an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), Birth Doula and Childbirth Educator who has an extensive background in Early Childhood Care and Education. Jody Richards also has a long history in caring for families as a Birth and Postpartum Doula and Infant Care Specialist. With over 20 years of experience each, we feel that support is everything during this time. Our doula and infant feeding support, and prenatal classes and workshops are rooted in evidence-based practices, skilled training and experience, but most of all great care and trust.

I am the owner/operator of Sound Birth Services and have been providing support to families as an Early Childhood Educator and Birth Worker for over 20 years.

I have 2 boys of my own - one born in hospital, one born at home. When I'm not working, I am skiing, biking, hiking, boating or camping with my family.
I have been a trained and certified Birth Doula since 2015 which has given me knowledge and wonderful experiences supporting families with the physiology of pregnancy, labour and birth; pain management techniques; supporting pregnant people and their partners in the emotional aspects of pregnancy and birth; meeting needs in the early postpartum weeks; and breast/chest feeding support.

I found expert breast/chest feeding support in the Comox Valley to be lacking, so in 2019 I set out to become an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) in order to meet the needs of more families and was honoured with that designation in 2023.
In 2021 I was certified as a Childbirth Educator and teach classes here in the Comox Valley regularly.

You may know me as the Office Manager at Cedar House Midwives. I have spent 20 years supporting families as a Birth & Postpartum Doula and Childbirth Educator. I provide Postpartum Doula Services and Birth Doula Services, as well as offering Infant Care Education.
​After two decades of supporting families in the transition of parenthood, I recognize that one of the most valuable pieces of a positive birth experience is support. I believe strongly in non- judgmental support, and that your birth and parenting choices should be honoured.
​
​My life experience has given me the skill of being able to relate to people at their most vulnerable, while attuning to what you need, making you feel deeply nurtured and safe. My best tool I bring is a warm, gentle and calming presence.
When I am not working I am spending time being a mom to my daughter and I'm also a fiber artist at Penguin & Owl Acres.
